If PC users can't control their ego, like refusing to download free software off the Internet that give them viruses and spyware then eventually crash their computers and make them cry like a little baby, why don't they just give up the complicity and buy a Mac?

I personally don't like Mac, and that is because I am an advanced User, but Mac will certainly help these poor unenlightened PC users.

Every single thing they see on the Net they want. They won't stop visiting porn site. They can't control their ego. My question, why don't you just buy a Mac? I'm sick and tired of helping educating PC users.

Once again, why don't you give up the PC world and go Mac and never come Back?

I guess this isn't really an answer, but a statement of support and agreement. Your observations are right on the mark. And I don't have an answer. People *are* switching over to Macs because Apple's share of the total market has increased. And surprisingly, there are more companies offering antivirus and antispyware programs specifically for Apple products. I can only surmise that's because the mentality is still the same: "...download free software off the Internet that give them viruses and spyware then eventually crash their computers and make them cry like a little baby."

I need a music store that you pay a one year fee to download and burn. Yahoo jukebox wants 80 a year plus 79 cents a song if their burnable. I don't want " free downloads" if their not burnable. On a more serious note I would swap AVG ainti virus for Kaspersky or Nod32 and get a router that will act as a hardware firewall for ever more security, other than that good job.

Uhm afraid of catches eh? IMHO, i've used freeware AV, but didn't have any catches. I use AVG (free version, but you can always purchase the Home Edition, or Commercial Edition) for my anti-virus, spy-bot search and destroy and CCleaner. All are free and safe from spyware, and you're free to donate a few measly dollars to help them maintain there products.

I use, and highly recommend Norton, and I know that it will slow down your computer, but you can shorten the startup time and keep Norton by just limiting the amount of startup programs in Windows (do you really need Quicktime or any other extra software to take up startup time?) Hi Dude, when the system starts up U dont have to worry if it reaches 100% CPU Usage as many Threads will be initiated. But see that this will go down after some time, if it does not go watch the memory usage of each Program in the TaskMGr. Also U need to know that the more the system is on the Idle, that means the more the CPU resourvces are Free.

Check out if some prices is taking more Memeory(Sort by Mem Usage), if some process is taking probably it is getting automatically started when the system is getting started. So go to ControllPannel/AdminTools/Services/ and sort out by all the Started Services. If U want to make any Service not to start as soon as the Machine i booted, chenget the settings here(Chenge tham form Automatic to Manual). Make sure that do not modify the System Services. U should be able to identify which one is a Windows System service and which one isnot????

I wish I could download a COMPLETELY FREE program to clean up all the useless junk and spyware from inside of it.

I have spent days and weeks trying to fix this problem. I just want to be able to browse with my Verizon DSL and now, I'm not even sure if this has become one of the problems.

SQLSLAMMER.A that's its new name for that it is a potentially exploitable flaw in SQL server/MSDE. That's why it's not picked up with a scan. It letting you know to scan in case it is infected. Which is capable of allowing remote execution for a Denial of Service attack. I could go more into but there's no need to, just do windows update, I'm sure that will take of it. If not than you need to remove SQL server/MSDE and reinstall if you need it.

ok..what u have to do is run it in safe mode start/run and type msconfig then choose general box and check diagnostic and restart ur computer then run these antispamware and do all over again but check normal instead of diagnostic .. good luck
I think you just uninstall it. You might check for a file pccpfw.exe after you uninstall it. If you still find that, delete it and reboot.
I've ran into similar problems with pccillin. the on-line free scan from trend micro works great, but they seen to have a problem with the bought version. if possible I would try to uninstall the pccillin, and just use the on-line free scan instead

Mostly noobs, the naive, the computer illiterate, and children use AVG Free. These types love AVG because they say it is easy to use and almost never bothers them with any pop-ups or warnings. Of course AVG Free never bothers them, it hardly ever finds any virus to warn them about!

AVG has proven itself to be a miserable performer at best. Missing almost 20%, while trying to detect known malware, in some tests. Not to mention almost non-existent heuristic detection and infrequent "once-a day" updates.

forget the downloader. go to a free music site like music.download.com or www.soundclick.com, find some music, right click where it says download or save, click on save target as in the dialog box that pops up and it goes to your computer's hard drive.
I highly recommend you use bittorent to get mp3s.

I recommend utorrent or Azureus, and if you are looking for *.torrent files, hit piratebay, mininova or torrentspy.

It is a spy-ware remover, but It doesn't completely catch everything. I would suggest running another one my favorite is Ad-Aware fr. Lava soft. Here's the link run both once a week, or when you fell like it.

Just download the personal version w/ is free. I've been using it for many years now and I'm totally satisfied, awesome program.

Spybot is a good thing. It's program that removes spyware and adware from your computer. Spyware and adware are placed there by websites that you visit. They're not illegal but they slow your computer down because they are busy sending information to their sponsors. It really needs to become illegal, in my opinion.
I have read the other cases by the answerers and cannot say much more than they have. But I will tell you this...be careful what you download online. I downloaded an unpopular brand of spyware once because my PC was acting strangely. After it finished scanning...the spyware program said that it had found 20 types of viruses. Hi Alex,

You have spyware. There is software that is using smart technology to see what you are typing in and using keywords it is "offering" you a solution to what you are wanting.... Why? because some people are just ignorant enough to click on them and follow the links... Thank goodness you are not like that. But you are infested with the spyware for sure. Now we just need to clean your system and you will be ok.

Go to http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-2007/30... and download Ad Aware. Install it and then run the program. IT will remove a lot of the infestations but they are far from cleaned out yet. Restart your computer in safe mode. Do this by telling it to restart and as it starts to come on hit the F8 hit repeatedly until it brings you to a menu. Then select windows safe mode no network support. Then it will finally start and then run Ad Aware one more time. After it comes up and you have more that it found run it again and repeat until it finally returns no objects found.

Then reboot.

Start up your browser and see if it behaves this time.

If you do not have any type of anti-virus protection by all means go to the home page of download.com and look at two avast and avg. I am not sure which is better. There are many people who would rather fight over which is best rather than spend time with a buddy quaffing a few root beers if you know what I mean?

Actually you are just fine. I use AVG it's a great program, as for your spyware and adware programs, you have the best there is to offer, you can have 2-5 spyware/adware programs without any probelsm, just don't run them at them same time, one at a time.

Stop using Internet Explorer browser and get Firefox with NoScript addon. The best protection against driveby installs of malware. Many other advantages, too. IE is the main target of malware.

Next you need to install a good antivirus such as AVG FREE.

Install a realtime protection antispyware such as Spybot S %26 D if you keep using IE.

Another good program to add to the above is Spyware Blaster. It blocks bad activeX, third party cookies, and known bad sites. It is free and requires updating twice a month.

For best scanning and removal of malware use Super Antispyware Free.

Gambling sites have ridiculous amounts of spyware. One of my customers was, shall we say, a "big fan" of online gambling, but started having problems with his computer. It took about 3 hours of installing a variety of antispyware programs (I think I tried between 6 and 8) to get everything out of that PC (when I ran two reliable scanners consecutively and couldn't find anything else, I took that as a sign that I had that machine clean) and I warned him about the consequences of continuing. Another major source of spyware and viruses - program cracks, including game cracks. If you want reliable samples of viruses or spyware, go onto a file sharing network and search for cracks. You will find plenty of items for a virus testing lab.

My computer runs fast when I am doing light work (Word, Internet, etc) But when it comes time to work with downloading a 5 min long movie from my DV camcorder and editing it on my computer it slows down to snails pace. Sometimes I have to turn it off because it freezes on me.

I got 640 mb of Memory with 353.36 of virtual memory free. I have a 2.39 GHz cpu and 7gb on my hard drive free out of 20 gb. I know I got no malware/spyware, already scanned and removed the few I had. I was thinking of clocking up my cpu, but I don't know how or if it will help.

i would uninstall xoftspySE and paretologic privacy cleaner they are both very poor programs.plus ccleaner cleans up after your internet usage anyway.you might want to try out superantispyware free edition as windows defender's detection rates are not very good.

Windows Defender has one two good points, it's free and it provides (some) real-time protection. But it's buggy and doesn't find and remove as much as SuperAntiSpyware (also free). Maybe keep WD for it's real-time protection but use SAS for on-demand scanning.

It sounds like a permission issue to me. Have you looked at the security on the d:drive? I assume you are administrator and can change the permissions and security, and even take ownership depending on the setup of your OS. Not sure if this is your problem but hope it helps. Good luck!

Check out the many Freeware options at snapfiles.com. Go specifically to the Security-Privacy section. I use the Free Internet Eraser program and it does a good job. I'm sure there are others that work just as well or better if you look around.
The best way is to format the hard drive which will erase ALL information permanetly. I have sold my old computers before, but I remove the hard drive and sell it without one to be certain that some smart person will not be able to recover any personal stuff. Use one or the other method, but just don't delete with a program. They can be recovered.
At the top of your internet browser click tools then click delete browsing history and then click delete all it will delete all of your internet history.
Get the DOD WIPE and then reinstall the OS. No sense in leaving something behind by accident.

Can't you go into Internet Explorer under the options tab and clear all internet history, cookies and temp. files? That is what I usually do. Then no passwords or anything else will come up and all internet history is gone. Unless you want to clean the harddrive due to questionable activity, then you will need to purchase a program or another harddrive and reload.
If your computer has a restore partition (when you boot, it says something like "press f2 to begin restore") or restore disks, you can just re-set the computer to it's original configuration.

Have you got anti spyware and a decent firewall, if not I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps.

Most viruses tend to be .exe files and they like to hide in the program files folder. They can be hidden there too so you might want to make sure you make hidden files visible. Basically, if it's something with a pornographic or very unusual name, it's a virus (unless of course you downloaded something like that). When you install a program it houses itself in the program files folder, but will have it's own seperate folder. The ones that just sit in the program files folder are usually a virus. Try to use avg just to scan this area and see what it comes up with. It should show you which files are viruses then you can manually go in and remove them. Otherwise try Clamwin Anti-virus which i find much better than AVG.
Clear cache, delete unused movie projects, save .wav music files to disk (as data) and delete them, do the same with .avi movies you may have....they take up huge amounts of memory , defrag..........You should be good to go after that.

My computer has been running sluggish for a little while even though I ran scans on it with Spybot Search and Destroy, AVG free, Ad Aware, Superantispyware and Spyware Blaster. I have noticed ad.doubleclick.net showing up on the bottom bar whenever I log into my mail account. I added it to the sites to be blocked in my browser options and ran another program called PARETOLOGIC. It came up with 5 issues none of my other programs have detected. What's going on? Any ideas?

ad.doubleclick.net is actually usually just a cookie that is set by doubleclick.net which is an independent advertiser for people. The place pop-ups/unders on websites and pay the websites for it. It is usually nothing to worry about but sometimes there are virus' hidden within them.

I hate to say it but they are usually found on "Naughty" (not just porn, but gaming related etc) websites lol.

hey!! i think it's thinking to hard on something and it's using up all your RAM until the computer freezes. it might have to do with an windows update from about a month ago. i never turn off my computer, but i added a network on friday and had to restart my computer (which installs updates). for the last few days my computer has frozen around 6:30am, which i thought was random until i checked and found my fsecure ran virus scan at 6am. when i get up around 9, my screen is frozen and time shows 6:34 and cpu usage bar at 100% (the bar when you hit crtl+alt+del).

This is a tricky question. There is only one free program I know that scans, removes, and prevents and that is Windows Defender.

Spybot, and Adaware both scan and remove but the free version doesn't prevent. Spayware blaster helps prevent but does not scan. If you already have an infection try all of them plus HiJack this to remove hard to get of BHO's and good luck the best way to prevent spyware is to be careful.

Ran CCleaner - Cleaned everything up

Ran CounterSpy for a virus check - came up with a little bit then deleted the problems

Ran Kaspersky Anti-Virus - Came up with a little bit then deleted the problems

Cleaned up my hard drive I've got about 25% free

It sounds like you have a nice, newer computer, and it looks like you've already done everything I'd recommend. I'd try downloading Ad-Aware 2007 or Spybot-Search %26 Destroy, and run both of those, just to make sure you've gotten every piece of spyware and virus off of your computer. Other than that, go to Control Panel and remove all the programs you're not using.

and that's all. there's nothing else. i asked this to people on yahoo and somone said try deleting all of your history and cookies to see if that solves things (go to tools %26gt; internet options and delete this from there) If that does not solve then this could be some kind of virus in which case restore back to a time when this was not happening (start %26gt; all programs %26gt; accessories %26gt; system tools %26gt; system restore) and then download, install and run AVG free anti-virus and anit-spyware at http://www.grisoft.com and http://www.ewido.com respectively. Hopefully this should solve things.

AVG only removes viruses. Use a anti spyware program to remove spyware. The ones already mentioned are good ones. So is AdAware 2007. You may want to use several spyware programs just to make sure.

Lately it seems like whenever I'm on the computer and I click on a link, it doesnt go directly to that link. I get redirected and for I have to sit there and view annoying ads. probably go into C:\Program files and look for either Active spyware or whichever company made it. Then, right click and click properties. deselect the read only if it isn't deselected, and then make sure all files and subfolders are made non-read only, so you can delete them, then delete it.

If it ISNT INSTALLED THROUGH A SETUP FILE (like an exe with a little zip or computer icon) THEN YOU CANT (if it's one of those fake ones like those popup ones on IE)

So, first of all, my laptop (an Inspiron 6400) has been acting up for a while. Even though it has no viruses, no spyware, and 50 gigs of free space, it has been horrifically slow, almost seeming like a 500 megahertz computer at times. I've tried everything, it just seems like it is malfunctioning. I purchased a warranty with Dell that said it would replace my laptop if it got broken, but the conditions seeemed pretty strict, so I didn't consider replacing it until today's unrelated incident. When cleaning the screen with some laptop screen cleaner, some managed to get under the screen, making one small puddle at the bottom very bright, and the rest dark. It was accidental by all means, but do you think that Dell would still replace my laptop, or would they say it was my fault?

It depends on which warrantee you have. There are two different products. One is just the regular hardware warrantee. The other is "Accidental Damage" protection. If you have the accidental damage protection they will probably replace and/or fix it.
